Central London Summer Thrown by Snowball

Visitors to SE1 were welcomed by the sight of snow on Tuesday morning 30 September, as Potters Field Park was transformed into a wintery scene. The surprise snowfall was down to Aer Lingus who were celebrating the launch of their new winter flights from Gatwick by engaging 130 people in a mammoth snowball fight.

The 130 descended on the snow to take part in the fight which lasted an impressive thirty minutes.

In total, 1,600 people registered to take part in the stunt after a three week social media campaign. The first 300 who registered were invited to participate with the lure of the snow proving so tempting that many travelled from all over the UK to take part - London, Liverpool, Newcastle and Huddersfield.

Enda Corneille, corporate affairs director at Aer Lingus, said, “With dark nights and dark mornings looming, the winter months are often referred to as the most miserable time of the year.  However, one aspect that gets people of all ages excited is the prospect of snow, and snowball fights.  So what better way to celebrate the launch of our new winter flights, than bringing forward the excitement of a snow day to hundreds of people.”

Aer Lingus will be adding another five new winter routes to their European flights from Gatwick Airport from 25th October, bringing the total number of Aer Lingus European destinations to thirteen.  Holidaymakers eager to get away this winter can now choose to jet off to Tenerife, Lanzarote, Bucharest, Warsaw, Eindhoven or Vilnius, in addition to Malaga, Faro, Vienna, Munich, Knock, Zurich and Dublin.
