Israel - Akko - Acres of Interest

Akko, or Acre, is one of those places you know is on the way up. Yet this ancient port city, in Northern Israel, should have been up for decades. It has a lot going for it: some of the finest fish restaurants in the Middle East, a glorious Crusader citadel, a stunning bay, a grand Mosque and some of the most mixed (i.e. Arab and Jewish) communities in the country. It also has a wonderful market brimming with herbs, spices, fresh fish, gaudy souvenirs and the freshest of fresh fruits. So why does the place have such a low profile in Israel? It definitely has an 'undisovered charm' and bags of history to explore.
