Romania - Before Its Too Late?
by Judith Randall
In the words of Iulian
I have been guiding foreign tourists through the Romanian mountains since 2000. Their continuous interest for the Romanian mountains comes as a surprise to my local friends, but not to me.
I’ve been exploring the Romanian mountains since I can remember and I still get amazed at the scenery everytime I hit the old trails.
People I travelled with were always more then pleased with what they’ve found: unspoilt alpine beauty, adventure, serenity, safety. They were equally impressed by the experiences they had with local, rural Romania they met – a part of Romania that was least affected by the communism and that accounts for a Europe that only lives in the memory of the elders.
If you want to experience that, you should come to Romania as soon as possible – after joining the European Union in 2007, Romania is more and more like the rest of the present-day Europe. Which is good in many ways, but not all of them. Be it for trekking, mountaineering, ski-touring, mountain biking, I believe that adventure tourism done safely and responsibly is a wonderful way to visit Romania. Looking forward to see you here!
