Undiscovered Journeys
United States of America - Wave to Russia from America - say 'hi' to tomorrow
by Mike Levy
Has anyone been to Little Diomede? - a remote Alaskan island in the Bering Straights which is less than 3 miles from its neighbour, part of Russia. This is a very tough challenge as there is no public service to the island - and it is frozen up for most of the year. But this is a unique spot on earth - a place where East truly meets West and you can stand on one bit of land which is 21 hours ahead of one just across the water: the International Date Line runs between the two islands. Here you can wave at yesterday.
